Music is My...

I was recently listening a song by CSS that talks about what music means to her.  Music is her boyfriend, it's her girlfriend, her brother, sister, hometown, beach house, queen size bed, hot bath, etc.  I couldn't help but laugh at what a stupid song it was, but it did get me thinking about what music means to me.  Music is my absolute passion, and has been since I was just a little girl.  If you know me, you know that I'm not just an ordinary music listener, I go crazy for it!  I'll stop any conversation if a good song comes on,  a guy that listens to good music is 10 times more attractive to me, and I'm constantly trying to discover new bands and get new music.  I consider myself a very eclectic music listener and love just about any type of music excluding techno and screamo- barf!  My latest fav has to be indie but I'm always open to a bit of everything.  I often update my blog with songs I have been, or am currently in love with! I decided to follow in CSS's footsteps and I came up with a list of why music is must important to me along with a few of my favorite bands.  Here goes:
                                        - music puts me to sleep when I'm wide awake

                                        - it helps me stay awake when I need to be

                                        - calms me when I'm angry or upset

The Beatles
                                        - opens my tear chambers when I've gone too long without a good cry

                                        - allows me to cope with a sucky break up

                                        - helps me to love with my whole heart

Kate Nash
                                      - brings back childhood memories

                                      - helps me feel cool cruisin in my car with the windows rolled down.

                                      - relieves boredom

Band of Horses
                                      - makes road trips a friggen blast

                                      - allows me to dance my little heart out

Noah and the Whale
                                      - helps me to feel all warm and fuzzy in church

                                      - reminds me of people from my past

Neautral Milk Hotel
                                    - motivates me to run faster

                                    - completes movies (makes the funny ones funnier, scary ones scarier)

                                    - allows me to forget that I have a care in the world

Mason Jennings
                                    - brings me and my siblings closer

                                    - provides entertainment when I'm in the bathroom for more than 2 minutes

                                    - is so stinkin fun at the pool or on a boating trip

Good old Kanye West
I could go on and on all day about why I love music so much but, my main point is, music can make just about anything and everything better!

My name is Rachel Pitts and I am a musicaholic.  Good to get that off my chest.

Before you die...

Do you ever have those days when you roll out of bed just expecting a simple ordinary day, but something extraordinary happens that far exceeds your expectations? I love when that happens! I experienced that today, and I'm gonna try to not sound like a giddy schoolgirl, because that is exactly how I feel. Woke up, showered, hurried to class, running late as usual, got to class to find a lovely note stating that class is cancelled until the 24th (wahoo), wondered what to do until my next class and remembered that I had seen somewhere that the dudes from the Buried Life (my favorite tv show) were coming to my school. I wasn't sure when so I went to the info board and coincidentally, today was the day!  I texted my sisters who are huge fans of the show as well and headed to save seats. I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I honestly acted like a pre-teen at a Bieber concert as the fellas walked in.  I screamed my lungs out, jumped up and down, all while taking pictures (which ended up as nothing but a blur).   I'll give a bit of a background as to why I was going so insane. The Buried Life is a reality tv show on MTV that is simply inspirational to me.   It's 4 young, very attractive, Canadian fellas who decided to make a list of things they want to do before they die. Just random things such as; longboard in San Fran, play Basketball with the President, get in a fight, get married, Streak on the field at a professional soccer game, make a toast at a strangers wedding, etc. For everything they cross off their lists, they find someone else and help them to cross something off their own list. They've helped a Father and his son reunite after many years of no communication, a son provide a home for his homeless Father, a girl build a skate park for her town in memory of her best friend who passed away, etc.   Needless to say, it's very touching and motivating.   Listening to them today, inspired me! They talked of how they basically started off just like anyone else but the difference was, they had dreams, they knew they were attainable, and nothing would stop them from reaching them.  Jonnie (one of my favs) said, "never get discouraged at the answer no, it doesn't mean no, it just means not yet." They also read a quote that I loved, "You will never be as young as you are today." Isn't that the truth?  Now is the time to live your life! Not tomorrow, not the next day, not someday, not when your older, wiser, richer, braver... NOW. Carpe diem, Seize the day, make your lives extraordinary! What do you want to do before you die?  I suggest you get started.

Chillin with the boyzz.  Dave was so excited after we told him he looked like our bro-in-law

Love

Today another "Ah ha" moment woke me out of a dark slumber I didn't even know I was under.  These moments always seem to happen at the most random of times when I least expect them.  This time I was watching my little sisters wedding video that she had just posted on facebook.  This simple video reversed my skewed views of love and erased anything, and everything that had tainted love in my eyes. I saw SO many examples of true love that immediately drove me to tears.  First of all, can I just say that Matt and Angie are my favorite couple in the entire world?  The word that comes to my mind when I think of their relationship is, pure. They are so desperately in love, but don't need to (and have never had to) prove that to the world by physical affection.  I can just see it in the way they communicate, joke around, or even just look at each other.  I've seen Ang grow so much since she's been married to Matty and I can only attribute it to the true love she has for her husband that motivates her.  So, obviously I noticed the lovely couple because the video was kinda about them.  But like I said, I saw numerous examples of love.  I saw the tender relationship of a father and his daughter, a son and his sweet mother, brothers, sisters, in-laws, neices, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, old friends, new friends, best friends.  This may sound cheesy and cliche but, love is everywhere!  If you think you don't have it, open your dang eyes and you will find it.  Love makes you smile, it makes you laugh, it brings peace, it gives hope, it banishes despair.  Love makes a person completely invincible!  Just as the Beatles said, "There's nothing you can do that can't be done, nothing you can sing that can't be sung... ALL you need is love." As I watched this video, I longed for this time when I was surrounded by all the people that I love who are going to make my eternity, heaven.  I do hope for a husband in the near future that I can love with my whole soul, but until then, I think I have enough to get me by :) My name is Rachel Pitts and I believe in love!

Here's the famous video.  Ang prob thinks I'm the biggest goof for posting this but oh well :) Password is pff

I'm amazed...

That this...
plus this...

plus this...

plus this...

plus these and other random odds and ends...

Equals this!!!!!

If you've talked to me or attempted to talk to me these last few months, you know what my life has consisted of... anatomy, a little work, and more anatomy.  I live and breathe this dang class and rarely have time for anything else!  I realized I was completely consumed when I started falling asleep thinking of anatomy and in my dreams started coming up with random names for muscles!  It gets worse, I can't help but pick out specific names of muscles and bones of passers by, and I even stopped liking this guy because he had a large mastoid process!  Needless to say, I have a love/hate relationship with this class.  Despite the fact that I spend every waking moment (and sleeping moments) focusing on this class and basically have no life, I am absolutely in awe of the human body!  I am blown away by every single little intricate detail.  I definitely know now, more than ever that, "all things denote there is a God."

My name is Rachel Pitts and I am amazed at what God can do!
